Title: Caught
Series: Caught by the Bad Boys Book One
Author: Raathi Chota
Genre: YA/Thriller
Release Date: January 15, 2019
Publisher: Limitless Publishing
I’m the school geek. The teenage girl with glasses. The girl who boys avoid because her dad just so happens to be the Sheriff.

All I’m interested in is getting into Yale so I can leave this town and everyone in it behind. Until four of the most popular boys in school suddenly show an interest in me…

Why? I’m not sure. But when they make me a bet I can’t refuse, I shed the good girl skin I’m in just to prove to them I’m not as innocent as they think I am.

Only, things start to go wrong. Really wrong.

As I stare down at the grave in front of me, I know my life will never be the same again—not while I’m caught up in this web of lies, deceit…and murder.

He trapped me, resting each arm on either side as he placed it on the hood. Our faces inched apart as he smirked. I bit the inside of my cheek as he neared me. I felt his mouth on my skin as his lips soared up my jawline until he stopped by my ear. I heard his slow breaths that sent shivers up my spine. Again, he leaned closer, which resulted in me almost falling onto the hood, but I placed my hands behind for support.

“Who am I kidding? You’ve always been my bad girl.”

“Shut up!” Aidan yelled. We stopped to look at Aidan, who had a grave look on his face.

Aidan was never the type of person to get angry or take anything seriously, so to see him this way frightened us. The only time he’d be serious was with the guy with the drugs. “It’s all our faults, okay? Ethan’s fault for picking her up, Carter’s fault for asking her to Homecoming, my fault for bringing her to the cottage, and Blake’s fault for offering her cigarettes. It’s all our fucking fault!” Aidan yelled, and I noticed how he’d clenched his fists. It was quiet, nobody talked after a while, everyone tried to register what Aidan had said, and he was right. It was our fault, we took the bet too far. We ruined her.

You don’t want to hear about my drama,” she says, forlorn. There’s a twinge in my chest, not only from the dejection in her voice, but the vulnerability in her eyes. God, I wish I could bring myself to touch her.“If it matters to you, why wouldn’t I?”

She tilts her head slightly, her eyes lifting to mine as if to see if I’m being sincere. “Because you’re you—a hot twenty-year-old college guy, staring up at the stars with more interesting things to talk about.”

“Hot?”

She narrows her eyes, a small curve of her bee-stung lips capturing my attention. “You know you’re hot. Don’t deny it.”

Even upset, with slightly smudged makeup and a tinge of sadness marring her features, she’s breathtaking in the dim light.

“C’mon, mini Ross. Spill it.”

She cocks a brow. “Does that work on my brother?”

I shrug, my smirk all the answer she needs.

We sit there, eyes locked, acting like we have all night. Her eyes widen slightly before she breaks my gaze and lies back on the lounger, moving her attention to the sky. I copy her and return to the stars as I wait for her to talk.

Whatever she says will determine whether I need to run to the guest suite to wake Millen and go on a douchebag ass-kicking rampage. And if, for some miracle, he wasn’t the cause of her tears, I can’t make it better if I don’t know what happened.

Where did that come from?

A few minutes of both of us lying there is all she needs to open up. “Everything was fine until after prom king and queen were announced,” she says quietly.

“You didn’t win?” If that’s the case, then the vote must’ve been rigged because, until tonight, I’d never seen a more worthy prom queen than the girl beside me. Poise, grace, confidence and goddamn gorgeous to boot. Any guy with a dick and any girl with a conscience should’ve voted for her.

She laughs, but there’s no feeling behind it, a hollow sound that belies the action entirely. “I did. So did Dane. Then we danced the first dance together, and it was everything a senior prom experience should be… until it wasn’t.”

I clench my fists at my side. “What happened, Ash…?” My voice is low and rough, edged with tension. I’m poised to act against anyone who did her wrong.

“I really don’t want to—”

I snap my head toward her. “Ash…” I near on growl.

She holds her hands up in surrender. “Alright, already. Down, Hulk.”

If it were any other time, I’d laugh at that.

“Let’s just say that although I was going to dump Dane, he decided to get in there first and do it by making out with Lisa in the girl’s bathroom, just as I walked in. Then he made a big show of leaving with her in the same damn limo he hired to take me in.”

That motherfucker.

Before I can respond, she keeps going, sitting up to face me and hitting her stride. “I mean, one of my best friends, really? That’s so fucking cliché, right? He wasn’t man enough to pick up his balls and tell me to my face that he was dumping me, so he decided to let his dick do the talking instead. What a fuck-nugget!” She’s whisper shouting by the end of her rant, and it takes everything in me not to smile—something I fail at the moment I mirror her sitting position and catch her own lips twitching. The more I fight it, the more her eyes shine. The longer I don’t say anything, the harder it is not to pull her into my arms and give the girl a hug.

What I definitely don’t tell her is that at my senior prom, I was the Dane in a very similar scenario, but only because I’d had half a hip flask of Jack in the limo before prom. And the Lisa in my situation was the sluttiest, most ruthless girl in school who had been cheating on my best friend at the time, so that was my way of saving him a whole lot of heartache down the line.

My methods may have been flawed, but my intentions were good. Nonetheless, things were never the same between him and me again.

“You’re not hurt about him; you’re more hurt by her,” I surmise, her tear-filled nod confirming it. “You deserve better, Ash.” I rise to my feet and fish my iPod out of my pocket. I scroll through the songs in my favorite playlist until I spot the perfect soundtrack for a moment like this.

An idea forming in my brain, I quickly scan the house to make sure it’s still dark. I may kick myself for this later, but all I want to do is make things better for her. No teenage girl needs to remember her senior prom and have it marred by the recollection of her best friend leaving with her boyfriend.

Meeting her eyes, I reach out my hand for hers. Her brows furrow adorably. Don’t think of her that way. She’s still Millen’s baby sister.

I push those thoughts aside and wiggle my fingers. “Stand up, Ash. Every girl needs a good memory to erase the bad, and I know just how to do it.”

Title: Detecting Autumn
Series: Granite Lake Romance

Release Date: January 15, 2019

“All’s fair in love, war, and romance novels.”

Bestselling author, Autumn Alex Monroe, lives and works by her misguided credo. She’ll do anything in the name of book research, including dating Gabe Moretti, a well-known member of the mafia.

Confirmed bachelor and private investigator, Shane Everett, is selling his detective agency and moving to Granite Lake to open Black Bear Brewing with his brothers.

When Gabe Moretti asks Shane to investigate the stunning and eccentric author, Alex Monroe, he says, no, but blackmail and mafia persuasion convinces him to take the case.

Shane quickly learns that Alex is a witty, sexy, and secretive woman… and she needs his protection from Gabe, the sociopathic goon who claims to be her boyfriend.

After a kidnapping and a forced marriage—while dealing with Alex’s bizarre sleep disorder— not to mention her multiple personas—Shane discovers that detecting Alex is exhilarating and dangerous.

…But most shocking of all, he finds that Alex’s unpredictability and hilarious antics have managed to capture his heart.

**A steamy, hilarious, and drama-packed romance with a happily ever after.
**Contains mature language and romantic scenes.
**Detecting Autumn is a stand-alone novel. However, some of the characters in this book are also in the other Granite Lake Romance novels.

COMBINING DRUGS, ALCOHOL, AND PARASOMNIA is a volatile cocktail in any circumstance. Throw in a good old-fashioned kidnapping, a pitch black closet, and a misogynistic psychopath, and Autumn found the pot of fool’s gold at the end of a black rainbow. She groaned, rolled over, and threw up.

“Wow. That’s—” The male voice shifted away from her in the dark. “That’s a potent odor.”

Autumn wretched again. Acid burned her esophagus and she knew she’d never drink bourbon again. Not even to save her life.

“I aim to impress.” Her voice croaked like a bullfrog with laryngitis. She spat into the mess, trying to clear away the rank taste.

“You’re succeeding,” he said. “Autumn Alex, the girl with two names and two boyfriends.”

It was Shane who spoke. She recognized his voice. Or, more like, she recognized her body’s response to the appealing timbre of his voice. A tiny involuntary moan rose from her chest. How was that possible? With a raw throat, the sound came out as more of a garbled belch than a seductive whimper.

“I don’t have a boyfriend—or two of them, either—you yank wanker,” she said. Autumn didn’t deny having two names. Actually, she currently used four names plus a corporation name, but Shane didn’t need to know that right now. “How long was I out?” she asked.

“Less than an hour, I think,” he said. “There’s no clock in here.”

Fuzzy recollections of the previous forty-eight hours slapped around inside her head as she scooted across the carpeted floor. Memories mingled with the distorted and incomprehensible dreams she’d been having and increased the churning nausea inside her stomach.

With arms outstretched, Autumn searched for anything in the absolute dark. She found smooth walls and the floor beneath her and nothing else. Autumn breathed deep, trying to clear her mind and settle the roiling upset inside her gut. Her thoughts cleared, but the sick feeling remained. She understood that Gabe Moretti was the source of her stomach clenching and overwrought nerves more so than the drug he’d slipped into her bourbon.

“It feels like I slept for hours,” she said.

“No. Although, I think you’re part feline. You take short naps and lash out with uncalled-for attacks. You’re all teeth and claws for no reason at all,” he said.

“What did I do this time?” Autumn found Shane when her fingertips brushed against his leg.

He grunted for an answer.

Autumn stopped searching their makeshift prison. “No one has ever compared me or my sleeping problems to a cat before, but I see the resemblances. I’m independent, but occasionally need the company of others. I’m athletic, but a little finicky.”

“And a psychotic man-slayer,” he said, interrupting her cat analogy with his own.

She sat back against the wall and laughed. Shane may not be joking, but his remarks eased the knots of tension that had taken up residence along her spine and between her brows.

“Think what you will about me, but I’m not a man-slayer,” she said.

The sound he made was somewhere between another grunt or clearing his throat. Either way, she got the impression that he blamed her for their current predicament of being locked inside Gabe Moretti’s secret room.

And … she does it again! Burning for Autumn is another gem from the mistress of romance and suspense, Freya Barker.

Let start by saying that I REALLY love Keith Blackfoot in this story. He’s one hot, sexy alpha cop who definitely meets his match with Autumn, a snarky, sassy researcher from Mercy Hospital’s burn unit, who happens to be new in town as well.

The attitude and banter that plays between Keith and Autumn is quite amusing. She’s fiercely independent, but Blackfoot isn’t dissuaded by her in the least. Once they find themselves on the same page, the two actually are a great couple. I also really enjoyed all the other characters in this book, whether they’re new or some we recognize from Freya’s other books.

While someone has been sending notes to Autumn, fires have been deliberately set around town and it has everything to do with her. As Keith tries to keep her safe, he and other law enforcement pull together to try and figure out who the arsonist could be. There’s sure plenty of twists and turns, and I was left on the edge of my seat wondering who was guilty.

As with all of Freya Barker’s stories, her attention to detail and description makes it so easy to lose yourself in the world she creates. Her mature characters are real people with flaws and all, which makes any one of them completely relatable. This is definitely a great start to a new series, and I love how it intertwines with Susan Stoker’s Badge of Honor series. I say the same thing about every one of Freya’s books, but she is the BEST STORYTELLER of our time! I highly recommend this one and can’t wait for more. Five stars for me!
I was given this ARC for an honest review, and honest it certainly is.

Title: Faith

Series: SEAL’ed #5
Author: Andi Jaxon and AJ Alexander
Genre: Contemporary/Military Romance
Release Date: December 12, 2018

Justin
I originally joined the Navy as an escape, to become more than a country farm boy. Being a Navy SEAL turned me into a man, but one without a life outside the military. I thought that was all I needed. Until everyone around began to find their Happily Ever Afters’. I realized my life was missing love, something I’ve been longing for. All it took was one simple letter from home to remind me that everything I ever needed was right there waiting for me.

Becca
Losing the love of your life before he was able to meet his child was the hardest thing I’d ever gone through. I tried to move on with my life, and find a new sense of normalcy with my daughter and myself. One simple holiday act of kindness has set my carefully choreographed life into a tailspin. I could never have guessed writing a simple letter to a deployed sailor would bring us to a place we can finally call ‘Home’ again.

Can these two trust in the things they can not see to find true happiness?

JUSTINIt’s just another day over here, sitting and waiting for something interesting to happen. It has been about a month since we got here, and I still haven’t heard anything from the pen pal services I signed up for. I’m guess that I must be a little to boring for someone to write a letter too.

No matter keeping these knuckle heads in line and out of trouble is a full-time job when we are on mission. Just as I am about to hop in my bunk, I head the call for mail sound from the chow hall.

“Hey LT, aren’t you coming?” Cowboy asks as he hops of his bunk and heads in that direction

“What’s the point? There ain’t nothing in there for me, besides there the makings of a sandstorm brewing out there. I don’t want to be caught in that.” I grumble as I lay back, placing my hands behind my head.

“Aww no lady friends pinning after you old man? More than enough of me to go around I guess.” Hard-on responds as he claps Logan on the back before heading out the bunkhouse.

“Maybe I need to call the girls and let them know about all the ladies writing you
letters?” I hope off my bunk and follow them, it wouldn’t hurt just to see if maybe I got lucky and someone sent me something. There is always hope, right?

“Fuck you LT! You know I am a one woman, I mean two-woman kind of man.” Hard-On shouts over his shoulder. However, the panicked look on his face is priceless! I have never seen a man more in love with anyone that Charlie is with Avery and Amber. Who would have thought that it would take two women to tame that one.
Once we enter the Chow Hall, I notice Brass and head his way. It was a close call on whether he would be making this mission or not, with his motorcycle accident and all. I think in part of his new-found back bone and that stubborn as hell woman of his he was pronounced fit for duty just in time.

“Hey Brass, waiting on something from that lady of yours?” I ask, taking the seat next to him.

Don’t you mean his Mama?” Hard-On plops down on the other side of him, barely missing the right hook Brass throws his way.

“Layla always sends me something, never know what it is going to be. So, I’m here impatiently waiting just like the rest of you assholes” He grows. I guess Hard-on is till giving him a hard time about his relationship with his girl. I don’t know much about what’s going but I do know it’s not the norm. As long as it isn’t illegal, he can do whatever the hell he wants.

Brass sudden becomes fixated on the door, “Hey Newb, where’s my shit?”
The newest member of our team, Brady, is headed our way. Now that Brass has finally lost the title of Newb he has taken to giving of Brady here a hard time. I can’t say that I blame him, it is a rite of passage in the SEALs. Although it took him longer than most, he is a better SEAL and man for it.

“What shit are you talking about, Brass?” Newb responds

“My laundry you ass. Ain’t nobody got time to be doing their own laundry. That’s what we have you for.”

“Brass, last time I checked you had a Mama for that shit. I ain’t your Mama. Do your own fucking laundry.” Newb says before turning to head out. Guess seeing if he had any mail wasn’t that important.

“Damn! Now I know why you asses gave me such a hard time. That shit feels good as fuck!” Brass says, and we all begin to chuckle. Suddenly I feel a tap on my shoulder, turning to see who it is. “Sorry to bother your sir, but there is a letter here for you.” I don’t even register who is speaking before I take the letter and rip it open. The pages smell like a warm spring day and are covered with elegant handwriting that can only come from a woman,

Dear Lieutenant McMillon,

With the holidays approaching much faster than I would like, I wanted to write you a letter to thank you for volunteering to defend our country. Military service is often a thankless job; under paid and over worked. Deployed for months at a time, taken away from friends, family, and loved ones.
I am a CNA at one of the local hospitals and all of us on my shift decided to volunteer to bring happiness to someone else’s life. I am a Marine Corp widow, my late husband always said that mail call the highlight of everyone’s day. Just knowing that someone was thinking about them on the other side of the world made things a little better.
I’ve never been overseas or even on an airplane. I can’t imagine what it’s like to live in a different country for months at a time, especially some place as dangerous as an active war zone.
I hope you’re as safe as you can be. The only thing I’ve done is move from Texas to California.
Do you have family or loved ones that write to you or is that why you joined this
program? Do you enjoy being in the Navy?
I have a little girl who is three going on thirteen. I can’t imagine being away from her for months at a time. I barley like going to work every day, time is precious, and we must spend every minute as if it is our last.
I’m not sure what to say except thank you. Thank you for keeping me safe. Thank you for everything that you do, all the things that people not in the military don’t know you do.

Sincerely,
Becca

I can’t help but smile. Just this simple letter had changed my outlooking on the day. I’m going to write her back, just to say thank you of course. I’m not expecting anything to come of this, but just knowing that Becca took the time to write me is enough. Maybe she will want to correspond further after this? This definitely gives me something to look forward too, which is a godsend around here.

Raised all over the country, I’m a interesting mix of East Coast meets West Coast with a little bit of Southern thrown in, just for good measure. I married a sexy man in uniform who let me spawn and am now raising a mutinous army of hell raisers that I created myself, all while he defends our country. I drink too much coffee until it’s late enough to drink too much wine and am sexually frustrated for your freedom. If you see me online, I’m probably sitting in a closet, hiding from my kids.
