Title: Curtain Call
Series: A Driven Dance Theater Series #1
Author: Brianna Stark
Genre: Contemporary Romance, New Adult, Women’s Fiction
Release Date: March 15, 2020

I am just one more dancer on a mission in New York City, sleeping on a studio couch.

I’ve spent my last five dollars.
My bag is gone.
There’s no one left to call.

Until he gives me a break.

He’s the Kent Morgan.
Intimidating.
Famous.
Gorgeous.

I call him my director.
My dance partner calls him the God.
And like all gods, he’s terrifying, mysterious, and the greatest thing to ever happen to the art form.

I came back to this city to give the performance of my life—before it’s too late.
Kent Morgan is my best shot.
But the world is turning against us.
And when the God sets his sights on me, I don’t know how to resist.

Turns out the performance of my life might just happen behind the curtain.

I am not sure where to start because I would like to shake the words out of him and his whole mysterious persona. That or absorb him whole.
“So what did you want to talk about?” I ask, but all he does is look at me like he wants to avoid telling me what he wanted in the first place. Not that it matters anymore. He’s in my bedroom, and it seems we are both adjusting to that. After a moment, I become self-conscious about how I look, and I shift around trying to create that perfect pose. It’s an old habit—when I realize what I am doing, I place my hands in my lap and look down at my twiddling thumbs.
He lets out a breath and adjusts himself to face me. I have no idea what to say. I sense his hesitation as the tops of our heads sink closer together until they are almost touching. His cheek moves in next to my cheek. We pause, and I close my eyes. His breath is warm, while mine is tight, and we slowly exhale. We release a little more, and his rough jaw grazes mine, then his smooth nose and lashes. I imagine this is how blind people see each other. We get lost in the touching, maybe because we don’t have the words, as we respond to each other’s signals. Before I know it, we are lying on the bed. He looks unsure about this development, but it’s happening so naturally.
Then, finally, he brushes his lips against mine and we gradually open and join inside, and he is seeing me through his lips and touching every detail of my soul. I feel so utterly visible as his fingers trace the outside of my sweater. It doesn’t take much longer for the kiss to become heavy, desperate, as though we are trying to consume one another and can’t get enough. Ever.
Kent pulls back. He rubs his hands quickly over his face and looks at me. “Is this a good idea?” His gaze pleads with mine.
“What? Sleeping together?” I’m dozy. Weak.
The muscle in his jaw clenches.
He stands up from the end of my bed and starts pacing in my tiny room, his hand scrubbing that worn spot on his neck. “I don’t know what my problem is,” he smirks. “This isn’t something I do.”
I reach for him and rest my hands flat on his hard, warm chest. “It’s okay,” I whisper, and he looks at me in a way that is disapproving, or maybe questioning. “Maybe you put too much pressure on yourself. We are human.” I’m not sure if I know what I am talking about, but it seems like something he needs to hear.
But my fingers have a mind of their own as they travel the cool cotton draped over his shoulders and curl over the collar of his shirt. I study his sharp eyes where his focus slices into me.
He inhales through his nose, my fingers tremble as they pull him closer by the collar, and our noses brush as our eyelids graze together.
“If I sleep with you…” His voice is coarse breath.
If you sleep with me…

The rest is said in our eyes as our focus falls away and our heads drop. We both fall onto our backs with a heavy sigh.

Genre: Women’s Fiction/Chick Lit/Romance Suspense
Release Date: May 21, 2019
Limited Time Special 99 Pennies
Passion, intrigue, scandal—this rock station with a dangerously sexy bite has it all!

After a painful breakup, lone WORR female disc jockey Dana fights to pull herself together while wondering if she’ll ever find true love. When she meets Cody, the hot lead singer of an up-and-coming band, the passion between them is electric. But Cody’s long-buried secrets could get in the way of them finding a lasting rhythm.

Drive-time deejay Jonny Rock had never been serious with any of his conquests, until now. Nineteen-year-old intern Heather is insatiable in and out of bed…and he can’t get enough. It’s a perfect set up until their relationship threatens to end his career—and his marriage.

Three lives collide in an explosive story of desire, betrayal, and music.

But they are not alone.

Dana is being watched, stalked by a listener who plans to make her his…by whatever means necessary.

“A fast-paced and fun throwback to the heyday of the radio era.”—Kirkus Reviews

“It had me hanging on until the very last page.”—Readers Favorite

Before iPods and mp3s, satellite and internet radio…before corporate America changed the rules, radio was the ultimate music medium, and disc jockeys ruled the music world.
This is their story.

1998
(cue the music)

Dana Drew felt like her world was closing in.
She could feel a cry rise in her throat as she tried to compose herself. Loud rock music blasted from the speakers. She loved rock, but hated this song.
Of course it would be playing now, she thought.
Everything she knew and believed was turning out to be a lie. The man she loved was pulling away from her. Sam hadn’t said it, but she could feel it—the relationship she’d invested her heart in was coming to an end.
The chaste kisses, the dismissive way he spoke to her, the late nights at the office. She confronted him before she left for work today (not her best timing), but he denied anything was going on. In many ways, the torture of uncertainty was worse than knowing it was over. A small sliver of hope gnawed at her logic.
Could she be reading it wrong? Maybe it was all in her mind.
The pit in her stomach argued otherwise.
The digital clock on the board in front of her continued to countdown.
01:00, 00:59, 00:58…
Time didn’t care about her pain, it just plowed forward into what now was the unknown. Plans, dreams, hopes were disappearing.
Could she ever trust her judgement again? Would she ever love again?
Tears stung her eyes, but she held them back, taking a deep breath. The song was quickly ending and she needed to regain her composure.
Disc jockeys didn’t have time for feelings when they were on the air.
The final notes played. Dana potted up the fader, put on her headphones and coaxed a smile into her voice.
“Good afternoon…what a fabulous day! Great weather and awesome music. Who could ask for anything more? Love that song! Hope you do too ‘cause I’ve got more just like it coming up on Miami’s rock station, WORR!”
Her life was falling apart, but to her listening audience, all was right with the world.
It wasn’t normal.
It was rock and roll.

(turn it up)

Jonny Rock just got laid.
Tall and tan, with bright, spiky, bleached-blond hair, Jonny was a rock star—in his own mind.
Jonathan Roeker had been a poor student from Philadelphia. Bad grades and an even worse complexion were not a recipe for success. But he had drive, raw ambition and an intense love of music.
Besides, radio deejays didn’t need a pretty face, just a good set of pipes and a lot of attitude.
Jonathan was blessed with both.
An overnight shift, a skillful dermatologist, and Jonathan was on his way. Jonny Rock was born and Jonathan Roeker was left far behind in a middle-class suburb. Now Jonny was the man, the assistant program director of WORR—Only Rock and Roll, Miami’s alternative rock station. It wasn’t an easy road, but he had made it.
And he was loving every minute of it.
Jonny stretched his arms over his head and flipped on the radio. It was two in the afternoon and he was on the air. The miracle of voice-tracking, he thought to himself. He could record his breaks the night before into an automated computer, giving himself free time in the afternoon for some extra-curricular activities. All while his wife listened to him “live” on the air.
He couldn’t ask for a better set-up…

Bestselling author Lisa Wainland has spent more than two decades in the world of radio. When she’s not writing, Lisa is a successful voiceover artist who works with some of the biggest names in radio and television. Rock Radio is an Amazon bestseller and Readers’ Favorite Award winner.

There is no breeze when my stiletto hits the footpath. The air is stale and lifeless. Like me. I slip each foot out of my shoes and hang them from my fingertips. The path is scorching against the flesh of my soles. I’m not sure why I do it—it could be because the path is far too hot for my skin to bear, or it could be because this is a natural act for me, but I run. I run flat out. Running has always alleviated my tension—it’s probably why I started training for this stupid half-marathon in the first place. My handbag slaps at my sides as my feet pound against the tar. Running usually supplies contentment in my life, but right now I feel numb. There is no contentment—no nothing. Maybe if I run far enough away then I won’t have cancer anymore.
Darting in front of a car, I inhale harshly as I wave my apologies before entering a children’s playground on the opposite corner to the medical centre. Children swing freely. The sound of innocent laughter fills the air. The green grass instantly cushions my boiling feet. I stare at its brilliant colouration when my head drops and my hands grasp my knees.
“It’s okay. Breathe,” I tell myself, trying to slow each breath.
Without warning the grass slowly fades to a haunting grey. I flick my head upwards and my body follows suit. The swings bearing the weight of small children suddenly morph into aged tombstones. This once beautiful playground becomes ugly, as I see only an eerie cemetery. I try to escape the sudden changes, and step forward. My lungs seize, causing me to cough hard, and I gasp. I attempt to inhale air, but it’s not entering my body like it should. A stampeding herd pummels my chest, buckling my torso over, folding me in half once more.
“Breathe, May,” I whisper, right before my legs give way. I fall heavily upon my knees as salty tears flow steadily from my disbelieving eyes. Finally, I draw a needy mouthful of air only to release it again in an injured howl.

Returning to this town means dealing with unfinished business with a certain McIntyre and sorting out a whole lot of plans.
Can I put down my roots here and make this my forever home with my man?

Rebecca, one of four kids to her parents who are both primary school teachers, was born in Wollongong on the south coast of Australia before moving to the country with her family.
