– Carina –
I hustle out of the busy deli. Busy being the operative word. I do a doubletake before stepping into the small place, surprised to see so many students in line. Mom and Dad insisted that the campus would be practically barren, but they were wrong. Classes aren’t in session yet but there is plenty going on. Student athletes are already on campus gearing up for their season. Students with apartment housing are trickling in. The fraternity and sorority houses are bustling with life. I am just another student on campus. I tuck the dinner I picked up for us close to my chest. Desirae went to work out and she’s easier to deal with if she’s been fed. Talk about hangry issues. The girl is a handful, but I wouldn’t have her any other way. I never had a friend like her in high school. It’s hard to imagine another like her on campus. Desirae’s feisty, fierce, and fantastic. Things are guaranteed to never be boring with her around.
I waltz back to the dorm. I can’t help but admire my new surroundings. Beautiful trees provide plenty of shade and scenery. The impressive buildings take my breath away. The performing arts center and the university bookstore call to me but I’ll have to visit them another day. The campus is like its own small town. I love the different buildings and businesses on campus. At first, I hadn’t understood why my parents insisted on leaving my car behind. It all makes sense now. Who needs a car when everything’s within walking distance? My feet almost stumble on the flat sidewalk as my gaze locks onto the most amazing set of blue eyes I’ve ever seen. Like wow… Ripples of heat course through my body as my eyes devour his ash blond hair and toned body. I hold my breath desperately trying not to audibly moan. The guy is hot as hell. Thank goodness Diego is gone. I wouldn’t want him interfering with this fine piece of man-candy. I don’t know anyone else on campus, but I would love the opportunity to get to know this guy. I bite my lip admiring his confident swagger. There’s just the right amount of playfulness in his eyes to diminish his arrogant approach. I try, and probably fail, not to appear overeager.
“Hey” his sexy drawl has my toes curling. The guy exudes confidence and sensuality. One of Diego’s friends had been like that. It had been impossible to resist him. We’d been friends with benefits until he went away to college. Maybe it’s time to find me a new friend…
“Hi” I lick my lips drawing his eyes to my mouth. I hope my olive skin hides the flush of heat rippling over me. I don’t usually blush easily. Guys come a dime a dozen. They’re easily expendable but this one is just too damn fine to pass up.
“Dinner for two” he gestures at the sandwiches in my hands.
I nod temporarily losing my tongue. It takes a moment for my brain to catch up. “Got dinner for my roommate and me.”
“Freshman year” he inquires. His eyes slowly graze over my body. I hold still while he openly admires my long black hair, olive skin, and curves. My lips curl into a smirk as his chest sharply rises at the sight of my generous breasts. I love my Latin curves and this guy obviously appreciates them too.
“Yep” I confirm, “And you?”
He smiles brightly. I almost swallow my tongue at the sight. “Junior year… What’s your name beautiful?”
Damn he’s direct. I bite back the automatic sarcastic response accustomed to the lame one-liners, but this guy is as smooth as silk. His words and body language most certainly make me feel beautiful. “Carina” I reply, rolling my “r” to emphasize my Hispanic heritage. His pupils dilate as I say my name.
“Jaxon” he breathes, making my insides flutter. It’s time to go. The guy is so smooth I almost want to forget having dinner with Desirae and just jump in the sack with him. I take a cleansing breath. The overpowering attraction to him doesn’t bode well for me. I need to get acclimated to my new environment before getting distracted by hot guys.
“Well Jaxon, it’s been a pleasure. See you around.” I don’t wait for a response. He feels dangerous. I sashay away, feeling his heated gaze on my ass. I don’t bother smothering my smile; he can’t see it.
“I’ll see you soon belleza” he calls out causing me to nearly stumble. Shivers course through my body as the word resonates within me. He winks before walking in the opposite direction. I make no qualms about openly ogling him, merely reciprocating his heated appreciation.

A voice startles me. “Sorry, I’m late.”

It takes just a second for my brain to process the sound, the sound of a man’s voice, relatively young, not too deep. A Vermont accent not much different than my own. Yet, there’s something chilling about it, something that makes me uncomfortable, on edge.

When I open my eyes, I recognize him in an instant. Before my brain can even process him, my body reacts to him in ways that completely surprise me. Who would have thought that after ten years, he could still affect me this way. I feel nauseated, the taste of bile rises in my throat. A few seconds ago, I was completely fine, but now I’m clammy and hot. My hands are shaking, and my voice is gone, just like it always was around him years ago.
He hasn’t changed one bit. He still has the same piercing blue eyes and dirty blond hair, always kept a little too long. He still has that laissez-faire air of a boy who knows he has the world at his feet.
I fell hopelessly in love with him the first day I met him, a warm day in September, in seventh grade. He was the new kid on the block, and I was the shy self-conscious overweight girl. We’d met at the corner store next to the school. I would often sneak over there to buy treats because my mom wouldn’t let me have any — there were no sweets at our house. Dessert once a week was the rule.
I had bought a chocolate bar and a bag of jujubes. When I’d accidentally dropped the bag, and quite a few had fallen out, I was devastated. Matt picked them up quickly, one by one. “Five second rule,” he said, and popped one in his mouth. He gave me the other ones. I couldn’t help but smile.
I fell in love that instant.
We sat together on the picnic bench next to the store. He popped his bag of Doritos open and offered me one. I politely declined.
“Thank you so much,” I said to him, “for saving my jujubes. I don’t get to have candy often.”
“Me either.” He helped himself to another Dorito. “My mother is a health freak. My dad is a workaholic.”
I studied him carefully from head to toe. We were from different worlds. He was obviously a rich kid. His shoes alone were probably worth more than my whole wardrobe.
“Me too,” I told him. “My mother won’t let me have candy either.”
“Why?” he asked, as if it were not completely obvious. One look at me was enough to answer that question.
I stared at the ground as I dug into my bag of jujubes and reached for another one. “She thinks I’m fat. She says I need to lose weight.”
He smiled. “Don’t listen to her. Parents don’t know what they’re talking about.”
Did he really not see it? Did he think I was just fine the way I was? My mother didn’t. And my dad certainly didn’t either. Unlike my mom, he wasn’t polite about it. He’d always call me his ‘little tubs’.
“Are you new here?” I asked, an attempt to make conversation, and to learn everything there was to know about him.
“Yeah, we just moved here. My dad just started a real estate law firm. Apparently, the real estate market in this town is booming.”
I smiled. “I don’t know much about that.” I thought about my sad little apartment, and knew I’d never invite him to my place.
“What’s your name?” he asked.
“Kayla,” I said. “Kayla Wilson.”
He offered me his hand with a big smile. He had the biggest, brightest most charming grin I’d ever seen. “Matt Moore.”
Butterflies were dancing in my stomach. “Nice to meet you, Matt Moore.”
From that moment on, I was obsessed. I thought this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship, possibly more. I couldn’t even let my twelve-year old brain go there.
I had no clue that it was actually the start of my own personal nightmare.

Title: HER
Author: Britney King
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Release Date: February 28, 2019

“After four, I quit counting. What’s the point if you know it isn’t going to stop?”

Sadie is jealous. Why wouldn’t she be? Her life is falling apart. Meanwhile, her new neighbor is everything she is not.

Ann is perfect—the kind of woman everyone loves to hate—and a best friend to die for. She hosts over-the-top dinner parties, takes parenting to an entirely different level, and makes ambition look sexy as hell.

Sadie learns quick: the best way to cure jealousy is to befriend it. She also learns there’s more to her new friend than meets the eye. She’s patient, she’s kind, and possibly a serial killer.

It isn’t until Ann’s proclivities hit a little too close to home that Sadie has to ask herself how much she’s willing to overlook in the name of getting what she wants.

Exquisitely paced, Her is an unnerving and electrifying psychological thriller about jealousy, passion, and the dangerous places desire can take you. Full of enough tension and twists to make even the most seasoned suspense reader break out in a cold sweat, it keeps you guessing until the very last page.

Britney King lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, children, two dogs, one ridiculous cat, and a partridge in a pear tree.
When she’s not wrangling the things mentioned above, she writes psychological, domestic and romantic thrillers set in suburbia.

Currently, she’s writing three series and several standalone novels.

The Bedrock Series features an unlikely heroine who should have known better. Turns out, she didn’t. Thus she finds herself tangled in a messy, dangerous, forbidden love story and face-to-face with a madman hell-bent on revenge. The series has been compared to Fatal Attraction, Single White Female, and Basic Instinct.

The Water Series follows the shady love story of an unconventional married couple—he’s an assassin—she kills for fun. It has been compared to a crazier book version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Also, Dexter.

Around The Bend is a heart-pounding standalone, which traces the journey of a well-to-do suburban housewife, and her life as it unravels, thanks to the secrets she keeps. If she were the only one with things she wanted to keep hidden, then maybe it wouldn’t have turned out so bad. But she wasn’t.
The With You Series at its core is a deep love story about unlikely friends who travel the world; trying to find themselves, together and apart. Packed with drama and adventure along with a heavy dose of suspense, it has been compared to The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Love, Rosie.
The Social Affair is an intense standalone about a timeless couple who find themselves with a secret admirer they hadn’t bargained for. For fans of the anti-heroine and stories told in unorthodox ways, the novel explores what can happen when privacy is traded for convenience. It is reminiscent of films such as One Hour Photo and Play Misty For Me.

Title: Case One: The Deceit
Series: Trudy Hicks Ghost Hunter
Author: Lori Zaremba
Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance
Published: February 12, 2019
Publisher: Limitless Publishing

“Ghost, murder and deceit! What’s not to like?” ~Cranky TBC

“Mystery, suspense, romance and ghosts! I don’t think it can get any better.” – Red Hatter Book Blog

My job? I hunt ghosts. Not to prove they exist—because I already know they do—but to figure out why they’re still here.

My first big case leads me to a mansion on the Chicago Gold Coast, the previous home of a wealthy socialite who lived there until she accidentally fell to her death in 1927.

I’ve never been this determined—and excited—to solve a case like this one before. Pity I’m forced to work alongside a man whose sole purpose is to debunk paranormal activity. But the worst part? He’s gorgeous, and the more we work together, the more I realize I might be falling for him.

Together we’re delving deeper and deeper into the spiritual world. But the more secrets we uncover, the more pissed off these ghosts become; and that’s when I start to realize…we might be in way over our heads.
Meeting Jason’s surprised eyes, Trudy hurried to see what had the dog so upset.
She heard Leslie yell, “Jasmine!” before hearing a woman scream and glass break.
“What the hell?” Trudy’s foot hit the first step. Over the ornate railing, she saw Holly sitting on the floor with a tray of broken glasses next to her, and further down the hall, Jasmine was barking excitedly at the closed basement door.
Ryan came to Holly’s side, looking her over. “What happened?”
“I don’t know. I think something or someone pushed me down.”
Trudy arrived to kneel on the other side of Holly, whose eyes were wide with fright, a shimmer of tears glistening on her cheeks.
“Patrick!” Trudy called as she and Ryan assisted Holly to her feet. “Lock Jasmine in the control room. There’s glass everywhere, and while you’re in there, grab one of the meters.”
Patrick took Jasmine’s collar and led her away from the basement door.
“Do you think it was a ghost?” Holly squeaked fearfully.
Trudy met Ryan’s eyes over Holly’s head.
“Are you all right? Beverly wrapped her arms through Holly’s and sat with her on a settee in the corner of the front drawing room while Ryan poured her a glass of water from a carafe on a table nearby.
Trudy noticed the guests were saying their farewells. She observed Leslie pulling on a wool coat and strolling with the handsome Dr. Vincent out the front door.
The room was suddenly and oddly silent. Trudy felt the familiar tingling of her scalp as goose bumps rose on her arms, and her eyes met Dana’s.
“Someone’s here,” Dana said softly, her face pale and her eyes glassy.
“Who?” Paul asked, looking up from where he was sweeping the glass from the marble floor.
“Vanessa…oh, there’s a dog.” Dana swayed precariously, and Trudy and Jason rushed to steady her.
Patrick approached, turning on the K-2 meter. “Sorry that took so long. All the batteries were dead.”
Trudy looked down at the EMF readings, and the numbers appeared to be in a normal range.
She stepped closer to Dana. “Is she gone?”
Shrugging and shaking her head, Dana said, “She—”
Jason’s radio blared over Dana’s answer.
“There’s movement on the second-floor landing,” his guy alerted from the other end.
Jason turned in that direction, and just as his foot hit the lobby with Trudy right behind him, an explosive blast from what sounded like a firearm ricocheted off the walls.
Trudy leaped on Jason’s back as he was ducking for cover and brought him to the ground behind a large planter for protection, shielding him with her body.
Her gaze found Ryan’s across the foyer. He knelt with his weapon drawn and took cover behind the wall.
“Where did that come from?” Ryan yelled.
Shaking her head because she didn’t know, Trudy shouted, “Dana what was that? Are we clear?”
They waited for the psychic to nod before lowering their guard.
“Hicks, you can get off me now,” Jason grumbled from underneath her.
She glanced over at Ryan and saw the grin he tried to hide. “Sorry, old habits.” Trudy climbed to her feet and held her hand out to help him up.
Jason was full of nervous adrenaline. “What the hell was that?”
Trudy picked up the meter from the floor and grinned. “Oh, probably just some damn raccoons.”
He grimaced at her, but his eyes said, “Screw you,” which brought a bubble of laughter from her as Jason muttered, “Glad you’re enjoying this, Hicks,” before he padded angrily away.

Title: Forgiveness
Series: Nomad Biker Romance Series
Author: Chiah Wilder
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: February 26, 2019
Nomad biker: a solitary life, riding from place to place.

Flux once wore the Insurgents MC patch and his territory was Colorado. Now his bottom rocker reads Nomad.

The open road is Flux’s therapy and facing a 1500 pound bull in the rodeo ring is the way he blocks out the memories. One-night stands, booze and plenty of weed have done a damn good job at keeping his heart locked up.

Until he meets a sassy barrel rider.

The golden hair vixen runs rings around him faster than she rides her horse in the arena, and he can’t keep away from her. For the first time since the unspeakable tragedy happened, something stirs inside him.

But he has a long iceberg of guilt that he doesn’t want to get rid of. He’s chosen to live with it as a reminder of what has happened. Couple that with a bunch of inner demons that don’t play nice and he’s nothing but a shell of who he once was.

Maggie Haves hasn’t known anything except the discipline of practice. Touted as one of the best barrel riders to hit the rodeo circuit, Maggie doesn’t have time for anything that will veer her off the pro rodeo trail.

Rugged, tatted and muscular Flux is a very big distraction. Not to mention complicated beyond belief.

Flux has lived on the wild side most of his life, whereas Maggie has always played it safe. She knows the biker is danger in leather, but she’s drawn to him like a moth to a flame. Something about him keeps luring her, and she’s willing to take a chance on love with this imperfect man even if it destroys her.

Will Maggie be the one to show Flux that he deserves to live again … and forgive himself, or will his demons devour her before he throws her away?

Can two unlikely people find love in the midst of so much darkness?

The Nomad Biker series are standalone romance novels. This is Flux’s story. This book contains violence, abuse, strong language, and steamy/graphic sexual scenes. HEA. No cliffhangers. The book is intended for readers over the age of 18.

The screech of rubber caught his attention, and he side-eyed over to the commotion as a cherry-red pickup truck pulled into a spot, spitting gravel in the process. The ignition jerked off with an audible hitch that bounced across the parking lot, and Flux weighed the idea of heading out to the bar now. The truth was, he wanted to get back on his Harley—even the smallest ride cleared out his skull for a couple seconds. His fingertips were already itching to clutch the vibrating handlebars as he sat there turning it over in his brain.

His attention got shot to shit when a curvy blonde hit the pavement from the pickup’s driver’s seat and slammed the door. Flux homed in on the lucky SOB who got to stare at the chick’s tight ass in those jeans when he came out of the other side of the truck. The man, who was wearing cowboy boots and a hat, hissed something barely audible—a faint echo across the air. But whatever he said must’ve had something to do with Blondie because she squared her shoulders and threw the cowboy a death stare. After a few seconds, the chick sashayed around the car in sky-high heels, which made her wavy hair sway back and forth across her back.

A low growl came from the back of Flux’s throat. Come on, baby. Turn around so I can see the rest of you. The woman pointed a finger at the man, and even though Flux couldn’t hear their argument, there was no doubt it was heated. Blondie was right up in the dude’s face, and she was giving it as good as he was—which was impressive considering Cowboy had a good foot on Blondie. When the dude raised his arm with his hand clenched into a fist, Flux straightened up as a shot of adrenaline surged through him. If this jerk had any idea of hitting this chick, Flux would make sure the asshole would spend the rest of the night in the emergency room. No matter what the situation, Flux never tolerated that shit, and he wasn’t about to make an exception now.

Chiah Wilder writes about rough, sexy men who know how to treat their women.
Always a lover of books, she began writing at a young age and continued through college with collections of short stories. Figuring she had to grow up and get a “real” job, her writing was placed on the back burner.
Her love of reading has always been center front in her life. Chiah’s love of bad boys both in and out of fiction has inspired her books. She loves an alpha male whose softer side is brought out by a passionate, spirited woman. In fiction there are no rules or boundaries, and fantasies can go as far as the characters want to take them. Steamy, romances with tough, sexy bad boys are her guilty pleasure along with brownies, cheddar cheese, and movie marathons.

He was her enemy. She was his war spoils. He promised to try to keep her safe, but could he keep her safe from falling in love with the very man she should despise?
Imogen: A Dark Romantic Thriller is a story full of twists, where two flawed people are thrust into a dystopian world by no choice of their own. Captured and taken prisoner by the enemy on her wedding night, Imogen must find strength to survive her frightening new existence where her fate and safety hang in the balance daily. One false move could have dire consequences.
As the lines of good and evil become blurred, Imogen struggles between hopes of freedom with that of her growing love for the man she should hate. He very well may have captured her heart, but has she captured his? Or will she discover she doesn’t know who this man is at all?

R.B. O’Brien has always been drawn to the more taboo side of storytelling, even as a young adult, from hiding books from strict Catholic parents as a teen to getting lost in the erotic sections of bookstores for hours.

She is best known for her three published erotic romances, Thorne, Edge of Torment and Imogen. Much of her work explores the darker, sensual nature of relationships, those riddled with the reality of insecurities and human folly, often exposing the vulnerability, emotional turmoil, and occasional pain that can come from losing oneself in the heat of passion.
O’Brien holds a degree in English literature and teaches for a living in the Northeast, USA. She is the founding member of The Nu Romantics, a poet, a professor, a writer, a dancer, and a die-hard romantic known for her poetry prompts on social media including #writingromancelines, #sixwords, and #foundpoetry. O’Brien also has a profound affection for Shakespeare and beyond that, writes. Every chance she gets. Ruin My Lipstick is her first poetry collection.
